FT: 7-1 W
Cliffe FC went into this 1st Round Harold Robinson Cup on the back of a positive 2-1 away win in the league last week. Cliffe FC’s opponents were Brandesburton IV, a side Cliffe FC will face in the league also this season. Before the game kicked off, Cliffe FC looked the physically bigger side, which told in the opening parts of the half thorugh Cliffe FC’s play and within 15 minutes Cliffe FC had a penalty, which unfortunately for Cliffe FC was saved by the visiting ‘keeper from Aaron Tiplady’s spot kick. Cliffe FC though had another chance from the spot this time Scott Birch was able to finish for 1-0 Cliffe. Cliffe FC doubled their lead when a corner from a Kevin Simpson was headed in by Chris Walker to make it 2-0, a Cliffe FC corner was again the root of the visitor’s woes when another K. Simpson corner this time was met by Scott Birch’s head to double his game tally and get Cliffe FC’s third for 3-0, this score would remain until half time.
After a half time team talk from manager, Keith Tiplady, Cliffe FC came out not settling on their lead and shortly made it 4 in strange circumstances when after driving down the right flank, S. Birch crossed for it to somehow hit the left post and go in for a hat-trick for the Cliffe FC captain and 4-0 to Cliffe FC. The score soon read 5-0 when another K. Simpson corner got cleared only for a 25 yard effort to find it’s way into net from Andy Kirkham’s boot, minutes after coming on as a substitute. After being 5-0 up maybe Cliffe FC became complacent and Brandesburton IV managed to get clear on Cliffe FC ‘keeper Ally Harris’ goal and to put one away for 5-1. Cliffe FC kicked into gear again and once again from a K. Simpson corner Cliffe FC scored, with A. Tiplady heading into the back of the net for his second of the season and make it 6-1 Cliffe FC. A. Tiplady soon got his third of the season with a prime example of route-one football when K. Simpson once again provided the assist from a dead-ball when a free-kick in Cliffe’s penalty area was drilled to the Brandesburton area for A. Tiplady to chest it down and smash it home for 7-1 Cliffe FC.
Many Thanks goes to Cliffe FC sponsors The Bread Bin and Pure-Silk and The New Inn for their hospitality.
With an emphatic win such as this 7-1 Cup win, it can only put them in good stead for future games, especially league meetings with Brandesburton IV later this season.
