FT: 8-0 W
After a dramatic win versus Hedon a fortnight ago, Cliffe FC looked to stay top of the league with a win this week, Cliffe were at home to Shiptonthorpe.
Malcolm Bryce writes…
Cliffe set out a young side lead at the sharp end of the field by, 16 year old, débutant Baz Summers who opened the scoring direct from a corner kick that went straight into the net for 1-0. Baz Summers soon had his second when a cross from the left was put into the empty net, 2-0 Cliffe. Matt Birch added a third, his first ever goal for the club before Dave Heron hammered a shot into the bottom corner for 4-0. Baz Summers then had a first half hat-trick on his début and duly celebrated with a somersault. Half-time with the score at 5-0.
The same eleven took the field and Andy Kirkham made it six with a nice effort from 30 yards. Another 16 year old, Ryan Tiplady, took the field and had his first goal for Cliffe when he nicely lobbed the ‘keeper in the area for 7-0. Ryan Tiplady then added his second in very much the same fashion as his first for 8-0 Cliffe and nearly added his third similar to his brace but hit the post. Player/Manager Keith Tiplady had a chance to make it nine with a free-kick that narrowly went past the post to his and his team’s disappointment. The final whistle blew at 8-0 to Cliffe.
With this win Cliffe FC remain top of their division by a point, with 5 of their 8 goals scored by two 16 year olds. Many Thanks goes to Cliffe FC sponsors The Bread Bin and Pure-Silk and The New Inn for their hospitality.
