Cliffe Football Club vs. Hornsea Town III (A) 19th Apr 08

HT: 4-1
FT: 8-2 W

Cliffe FC travelled to face Hornsea Town III with their eye firmly on winning the three points.
Malcolm Bryce writes…

Cliffe begun brightly and took an early lead with Tom Hogg finishing off a chance with his left foot. The visitors then took a 2-nil lead when Dave Heron finished off a chance but Hornsea got back into it scoring for 1-2. Cliffe got a third through Andy Kirkham and a forth came from Scott Birch, delightfully putting the ball in the top corner from outside the area, for 4-1.

After half-time the visitors continued the pressure and a fifth goal was scored by Kev Taylor. Hogg scored his second, Cliffe’s sixth, heading the ball into the net for 6-1. The home side did manage to score another for 6-2. Cliffe, however, continued to put Hornsea on the back foot and Birch scored his second for 7-2. The rout was complete when Hogg completed his hat-trick, emphatically smashing the ball into the top corner from his right foot. The goals scored by Tom Hogg completed a “Perfect Hat-Trick”, scoring his three goals with his left foot, a headed goal and one with his right foot. Cliffe continued to create chances in the last 15 minutes and could have had many more goals with centre-half pairing, Dave Evans and Andy Moughan, dealing with the home attacks easily. The full-time whistle came, the game resulting in a blow-out.

Cliffe have moved upto third coming away with the three points but the job is not done in terms of winning the league. A definite highlight of the game was that of Tom Hogg’s “Perfect Hat-Trick”
