Cliffe Football Club vs. Selby RSSC (H) 7th August 08

HT: 1-0
FT: 2-1 W

Cliffe FC went into another pre-season friendly at home to Selby RSSC.
Malcolm Bryce writes…

Cliffe began with the slight hint of nerves. Cliffe eventually overcame their early nerves and began to gain strong possession and this paid off with a goal from Eddie Wileman, finishing a chance that managed to find its way right across the front of the goal. Cliffe’s possession continued, whilst not being able to extend their lead and 1-nil remained the score at half-time.

Cliffe continued into the second half the team more likely to score and Tom Hogg looked like he was going to score, only for him to miss after a great build-up. RSSC however, managed an equaliser, after what could only be described as a speculative over-head effort from the centre circle managed to bounce over Cliffe ‘keeper, Ally Harris, after he managed to misjudge the bounce. Cliffe continued to create chances but didn’t put them away and it looked as if the home side would have to settle for a draw. With less than twenty-minutes left Cliffe’s front two of Hogg and Nathan Horner looked dangerous combined with the midfield partnership of Ian Beckram and Luke Crowther. This paid off for the home side when Hogg played a ball from the right side of the area for Horner to score for 2-1 Cliffe. With only a few minutes left Cliffe had to clear a shot off the line, Shane Cawkill clearing off the line. Unfortunately Cawkill also collided with the post and sustained a nasty looking head injury.

Cliffe’s pre-season preparations look to be going well and both Cliffe teams are picking up some form to take into the coming season.

Cawkill injury update: Shane was kept in hospital overnight for observation and was released this morning with bruising on the brain and blurred vision. All at Cliffe FC hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
