8th April
Cliffe Football Club vs. AFC Charter – H.E Dean Cup Round 2

HT: 2-2
FT: 2-3 L

Cliffe FC had their biggest test when they faced AFC Charter, the current Premier Division champions, Cliffe made a good showing of themselves going 2-1 up after going behind early. The Cliffe goals coming from Scott Birch from the penalty spot and Tom Hogg working hard for the second. However, things were soon level and Cliffe were reduced to 10-men for the second Tuesday running when Richard Sowden handled the ball off the line and was sent-off. The resulting penalty was scored and 2-2 was the score at half time. Charter managed to score their third, breaking the offside trap, and 3-2 was the final score as Cliffe were unable to overcome having one less man. 10th April
Cliffe Football Club vs. Skirlaugh Res – East Riding County League Div. 5

HT: 1-2
FT: 3-3 D

Cliffe FC had to return to league action two days after their loss to AFC Charter and the workload they put into that game seemed to show in this game as they travelled to face Skirlaugh. Cliffe took the lead through Tom Hogg and it looked business as usual for Cliffe. But, after slow closing down a long range effort found it’s way into the net for Skirlaugh. The same Skirlaugh player popped up again for his second and Cliffe found themselves 2-1 down at half time. Cliffe really couldn’t afford to come away with nothing but it looked that way when Skirlaugh took a 3-1 lead when the same player again got his hat-trick for Skirlaugh. Cliffe now had it all to do, they grabbed their second when what looked like a penalty was instead given as a freekick on the edge of the box was put into the top corner by Scott Birch. The equaliser came from, substitute, Andy Kirkham. Cliffe continued to push for the winner with chances falling to Dave Heron and Richard Sowden but it didn’t come and the case was very much 2 points dropped for Cliffe as opposed to one gained.
