With this game featuring a first half hat-trick from Kev Taylor, Cliffe FC got their first league win under their belt.
Malcolm Bryce writes…
After last weeks disappointing performance away to Strensall, an improvement was much needed. Cliffe went 1-nil up early on with Kev Taylor opening scoring and Taylor would double Cliffe’s lead and this looked like it could be a very one-sided affair. As soon as that thought seemed to cross many of the minds of the Cliffe players Stillington scored to make it 2-1. When a Stillington player handled the ball in the area from a Cliffe corner Kev Taylor stepped up and scored Cliffe’s third, his forth in two games, and sealed his first ever career hat-trick before half time.
Cliffe’s second half performance was poor and they at times made Stillington look a better side than they were and the only notable moments of the half was Aaron Tiplady and Kev Taylor both leaving the field due to ankle injuries. Andy Kirkham’s cameo on the right wing saw him create a great headed chance from a cross that Sim Leach should of scored. Cliffe did however see out the 90 minutes and a “win is a win” and all the points went to the home side.
Cliffe FC’s teams are both in Cup competition next weekend. The first team face Strensall but this time at Cliffe Park and the Reserves travel to Poppleton Reserves.
