Once again, Cliffe FC were fixture-less due to match postponements so for the second time this season a exhibition match between the two Cliffe FC squads took place at Thorpe United’s ground.

The 1st XI were scheduled to play Shiptonthorpe at Thorpe in league competition but was cancelled on the Saturday morning. They played in Pink.
The 2nd XI were in Cup Quarter-Final action away to Union Rovers but was also postponed. They played in Blue.

Malcolm Bryce writes…
With two Cliffe FC sides that were named to play two competitive fixtures facing each other, one could think that the 2ndXI would try and prove a point towards Keith Tiplady and Bob Wilkinson, and this was the case, as during the first exchanges the 2ndXI looked more dangerous even though the 1stXI had more possession.
The 1stXI did take the lead through a great shot across the face of goal by Shane Cawkill nestled nicely in the top corner.
With some nice play from both sides the score remained 1-nil to the 1stXI at half-time.

The second half saw the introduction of both Ryan and Aaron Tiplady for the 2ndXI after returning from their stint in Australia.
The 2ndXI soon drew level with Tom Hogg finishing a chance past Ally Harris.
The 1stXI had a 2-1 lead when after some ‘uber-confident’ Luke Crowther play Ian Beckram scored. The 2ndXI drew level again through a fantastic Kev Taylor goal and the 2ndXI looked like they may just nick the win.
The 1stXI did prevail winners when Ian Beckram grabbed his second after a clever finish.
Final Score 3-2 to the Cliffe FC 1st XI.

As expected Cliffe FC won this fixture 😉
Many thanks to Thorpe United for use of their facilities!
