FT: 5-2 W
With Cliffe FC’s first team game called off, Cliffe FC’s Reserves were the sole focus as they travelled to face Crayke. This game would feature a Baz Summers hat-trick and, of course, the “Summers-Sault” celebration.
Dan Moody writes…
With a bright opening Cliffe took an early lead when Baz Summers broke through and smashed the ball past the Crayke keeper for 1nil which was emphatically celebrated by Aaron Lees. Summers would score his second after driving down the left flank and putting Cliffe into a 2nil lead. Tom Lonsdale played well down the right wing managing some good runs. The first half would have time for two more goals before half-time as Andy Kirkham made it 3nil to the away side before Crayke were given a small life-line when a shot lobbed Gary Wilson from 35 yards for 3-1 at half-time.
The second half didn’t lack action either as the first goal of the half went to Crayke and made it 2-3 whilst Cliffe were easily the best side. Summers’ hat-trick goal looked like it was going to elude him until Nathan Horner went on a great run into the box where he was fouled. Summers stepped up and put the ball under the ‘keeper to get his hat-trick which he celebrated with the customary “Summers-Sault” to put Cliffe 4-2 ahead. It was 5-2 before the final whistle when Andy Kirkham netted his second with a crouching header from a corner to seal the win for Cliffe Reserves.
Cliffe FC first team do not have a game next week but the Cliffe 2nd XI play host Civil Service where 3 points will be up for grabs.
