FT: 4-0 W
After last weeks disappointing loss last week, a positive response was needed along with 3 points as Cliffe FC travelled to face Bishop Wilton.
Malcolm Bryce writes…
In what can only be described as a downpour of rain Cliffe played some nice football but struggled to open scoring with Aaron Lees letting two chances squirm away from him. Central midfield pair Scott Birch and Billy Atton looked comfortable at time in the middle but the score remained 0-0 at half time.
Cliffe had to step up and win the game in the second half and Tom Hogg had the ball in the net but was ruled offside and strangely enough after some Wilton attacks, a ball over the top from David Evans for Hogg to smash past the ‘keeper and put Cliffe into the lead. Cliffe pushed on and Neil Taylor had his first goal for Cliffe FC as he emphatically hammered the ball into the net for 2-0. Ben Rawson would supply the corner-ball for Hogg to head in his second of the game. An individual effort would put Cliffe into a 4-0 lead when Billy Atton beat most of the Wilton defence to nicely slot the ball home. Atton had the ball in the net again but he was ruled offside also and the game finished 4-0 to Cliffe.
