Kevin Taylor opening scoring for Cliffe FC
You could possibly tell that Cliffe FC’s first team hadn’t played since early December as they opening could only be described as ‘rusty’ and Bishop Wilton managed to venture up the field and it was the away side that came closest as they hit the bar. Cliffe soon started to find their rhythm and after Kev Taylor managed to beat the Wilton ‘keeper to the ball lobbing it over him and Taylor managed to chase the ball and head it into the net, avoiding Wilton defenders, and put Cliffe 1-0 up. Cliffe looked to push on but surprisingly Bishop Wilton managed an equaliser. This was rectified before half-time with Nobby Taylor scoring a brace from the left wing to make it 3-1 at the break. Cliffe even could afford to have David Evans and Tom Hogg come close with Evans hitting the bar.
The second half began very well for the away side when Kev Simpson put through his own net to make it 3-2. Scott Birch and Andy Addison began to dominate the midfeild for Cliffe FC and soon the cushion was restored as Shane Cawkill’s substitute impact saw him score to make it 4-2 and then Ben Rawson scored his 5th in 5 games to make it 5-2. After numerous near misses, Tom Hogg had his goal and Cliffe’s sixth before Andy Addison rounded off a nice performance and the three points scoring Cliffe’s seventh making the final score 7-2 to Cliffe FC.
