Cliffe Reserves out-battled Stillington to record a vital win in the late-season push for a top-half of the table finish …
Gary Wilson writes…
Stillington Reserves arrived at Cliffe Park a depleted side from the one which Cliffe defeated only a few weeks earlier. However, they took the game to Cliffe in the first half and battled through a largely uneventful first half, which ended with the scores at 0-0.
The second half started as uneventfully as the first half had been, with very few half-chances being created by either team. Mid-way through the half Stillington had the first real chance of the match which was saved by Gary Wilson, who thus far in the match had been virtually a spectator.
Cliffe then appeared to step up a gear and they began to dominate the match as their opponents tired. Joe Richardson was fouled in the box by the Stillingon keeper, and the same player dusted himself down to slot the spot-kick home. Following this the result was never in doubt, and two well-taken goals by substitute Chris Jackson sealed victory for the hosts.
