FT: 2-1 W
Cliffe begun March and got back to winning ways with a dominant performance away to LNER Builders.
Dave Clifton writes…
From kick-off Cliffe looked to open scoring and through-out the first half, ‘keeper Gary Wilson, was a virtual spectator who’s only job was to pick up loose balls and collect offside decisions. Cliffe pressure continued and as half-time approached coupled with a few Cliffe chances going wide from Kev Taylor and Ben Rawson frustration may of began to set in until Tom Hogg powered the ball into the net for 1-nil to the away side which was the score at the interval.
Second half continued in the same-vein with Cliffe dominating and soon Hogg had his, and Cliffe’s, second goal with good play from the returning Kev Simpson. When Andy Kirkham, Hogg and Rawson linked up well, Rawson had the ball in the net only to be ruled offside. As the dominance continued but more goals didn’t follow it looked as if both teams may have settled for 2-0 but when Cliffe ‘keeper Wilson brought down a LNER player in the box, the converted penalty set up an anxious last 10 minutes which saw both teams pushing for a goal. Cliffe saw out the win and got the three points to keep league title aspirations alive.
They’re were a lot of positives to take from this game and with many good individual performances and some nice cameos from the bench, Cliffe have more than capable enough squad to deal with the end-of-the-season run in that will decide Cliffe’s fate. Cliffe next week face Moor Lane at home.
