FT: 5-1 W
Cliffe earned three points from Oxen Lane for the first time since last year in a confident 5-1 win at home to Moor Lane.
Dave Clifton writes…
With a couple of regular first-team players missing from their line-up, Cliffe still had a very capable first XI and bench as they looked for another three points. Things began well for Cliffe and Ben Rawson put the home team ahead with a effort inside the six-yard box. Moor Lane responded well and scored an equaliser to square things up. Billy Atton continued to be a thorn in Moor Lane’s side as he ghosted past their challenges again and again and soon this paid dividends when he broke into the box and forced the ball in to put Cliffe ahead again. Cliffe were worthy of a bigger lead but the game remained 2-1 at the interval.
Another goal was needed in the second half to seal it for Cliffe and as the nice link-up play between Andy Kirkham and Kev Taylor continued you could sense a goal coming and a cross from the left saw Kev Taylor nod the ball into the net to take Cliffe into a 3-1 lead. Kirkham deserved a goal after hitting both the crossbar and post after some nice attacking play. 3 was soon 4 when Rawson doubled his tally, celebrating with a cartwheel. You could tell that Moor Lane had let their heads drop, and when their forward pulled his hamstring and had to leave the field, it was very one-sided with the Moor Lane ‘keeper getting fed up of taking goal kicks! Byron Summers, who performed well from the bench last week, was moved to the left wing for the last 15 minutes and after a few chances going begging he put the ball nicely into the top corner to seal a 5-1 win and duly celebrated his relief with a special trademark “Summers-Sault” and was also given Cliffe Man-Of-The-Match.
Very nice win for Cliffe FC at Oxen Lane and showed both the strength and depth of the Cliffe FC side with arguably vital players missing. Cliffe’s first team do not have a scheduled fixture but the Reserves play away to Stillington Reserves.
