Cliffe FC Reserves moved to the top of the table with a 2-1 victory over gritty opponents Strensall Reserves
Gary Wilson writes…
The first half of this game was a tight affair with both defences on top, meaning little or no real chances were created.
Cliffe had a couple of long-range efforts, but neither were on target and didn’t threaten the visiting ‘keeper’s goal.
Cliffe started the second half playing more assured football and began to get on top of their opponents.
The deadlock was broken on 60 minutes when Aaron Lees latched onto a loose ball 15 yards out & beat the ‘keeper with a solid strike which was celebrated in the customary ‘Frank The Tank’ style.
Rawson increased the lead 10 minutes later with another strike from just inside the penalty area, curling his low shot past the keeper into the bottom corner.
Strensall began to pile on the pressure looking to get back into the game, with Harris being called upon to make a number of fine saves. The visitors were eventually rewarded with a goal 5 minutes from time, but Cliffe held on for a great win which sees them top the league for the first time this season.
