York Minster Engineering Football League – Division Two
FT: Osbaldwick 0 – 1 Cliffe FC
Cliffe FC get off the mark in the win column as they earn a deserved 1-0 away win against Osbaldwick.
Hugo Delgado writes…
After the match Keith Tiplady said “I’m pleased with the 3 points, the lads worked hard and deserved the win.”
Cliffe started the game very bright and Chris Jackson’s defending from the front saw him hit the post and the ball to bounce clear. Cliffe’s early pressure paid off when an excellent Paul Tanton cross from the left was converted by an equally-excellent Tom Hogg header to put the away side ahead at the break, 1-0 HT.
Hogg was unlucky not to double the lead when his sheer tenacity lead to him beating the ‘keeper to the ball only to poke the ball onto the foot of the post from a tight angle and 1-0 it remained. Osbaldwick began to knock and with the score remaining 1-0 it looked as if Ozzo would draw level. Cliffe came close again as some great feet from Steven Rowbottom saw him leave a defender and ‘keeper for dead only for his shot to hit the post once more. Cliffe threatened from set-pieces but the ball just didn’t fall for them favorably. Dale Huntington’s superb aerial performance enabled Cliffe to deal comfortably with Osbaldwick’s height up-top. Man-of-the-match Billy Atton continued to combine well with Hogg down Cliffe’s right but the second Cliffe goal didn’t come before the final whistle; Cliffe FC 1-0 Osbaldwick FT.
Cliffe FC move up to 5th and next Saturday are away to Thorpe United whilst Cliffe FC Reserves welcome Reserve ‘C’ leaders Fulford FC Reserves.
