B&P Sports Selby Cup 2012
FT: Cliffe FC Reserves 2 – 2(p) Selby Town Reserves
Selby Town Reserves edge past Cliffe FC Reserves on penalties after a 2-2 draw in which David Hebson’s CFC side came back from 2-0 down in a promising performance.
Hugo Delgado writes…
“It was a really promising performance against a strong side, I was really impressed with the work ethic we showed and some of the movement off the ball was top drawer. The season ahead holds a lot of promise based on today’s performance.”
~ David Hebson, 4th August 2012
Selby raced into a two-goal lead within the first 35 minutes through a nice finish and a speculative effort that evaded the ‘keeper. Tom Ellwood scored with a great effort, beating his man down the right wing putting the ball past the ‘keeper into the stanchion using the outside of his right foot, 2-1.
James Lancaster, with his first touch of the match, equalised early in the second half to make it 2-2, scurrying the ball into the net. With things all square at 90 minutes the game was decided on penalties, Simon Davies’ Selby Town side winning the shoot-out in “sudden death.”
Cliffe Reserves continue their Selby Cup campaign next Saturday.
