York FA Junior Cup – 1st Round
FT: Cliffe FC 3 – 1 Malton & Norton Reserves
Match played at Norton College.
Cliffe FC are through to the next round of the York FA Junior Cup with a 3-1 win against Malton & Norton Reserves.
Malcolm Bryce writes…
“It wasn’t pretty and we put ourselves under pressure. We have the tools to really perform but somehow something is missing. Another solid performance from Paul Tanton and a simply stunning goal from Lee Carter.”
~ Keith Tiplady, 30th September 2012.
With both Cliffe FC York FA Cup ties, originally scheduled at Oxen Lane, were both reversed and Cliffe Reserves travelled to York RI Reserves whilst Cliffe First Team travelled to Norton to face Malton & Norton Reserves.
Cliffe had an early penalty shout turned down when Nathan Parker was taken down by the Norton ‘keeper, but on the 14 minute mark a quality Chris Harkin corner was met by Paul Tanton at the back post to head Cliffe into a 1-0 lead. Norton still posed a threat which brought Cliffe ‘keeper Ally Harris into action and Scott Jackson took a booking to stop a Norton counter-attack and keep the score 1-0 at half-time.
Within 90 seconds of the restart Cliffe had a second penalty shout, this time awarded, when Kev Taylor was literally kicked up in the air. Luke Crowther smashed the penalty home and made the score 2-0. Norton gave themselves a lifeline, scoring from a near post header off a corner, 2-1. Cliffe’s third was most special of the day, Lee Carter nutmegging two opponents then placing the ball over the ‘keeper into the roof of the net, 3-1. Cliffe searched more goals and in the dying embers of the tie, Norton’s ‘keeper decided upon himself to go up for a corner and when the ball broke out to Dave Reasbeck, he was unlucky not to score from near the half-way line. Final score, Cliffe FC 3 – 1 Malton & Norton Reserves. Cliffe FC MOTM was awarded to Paul Tanton.
Next weekend, Cliffe FC return to league action as they make the short trip to face Thorpe United.
Cliffe FC Reserves remain in Cup mode, East Riding County Qualifying Cup to be precise, as they travel to face C-Force United.
