York Minster Engineering Football League – Division Two
FT: Osbaldwick 0 – 1 Cliffe FC
Cliffe FC repeat last season’s scoreline at Osbaldwick, Chris Harkin’s winner sealing a hard earned 1-0 away win.
Malcolm Bryce writes…
“Despite knowing our opponents the conditions and the match official, we played within ourselves for large periods of the game. If it wasn’t for a breathtaking performance from Dave Laverack in goal, the game would have been lost. Durnin, Crowther, Taylor and Harkin all did well when pressed and Atton, introduced at the interval, was excellent. We were pleased to come away with the result but overall the performance must be improved upon.”
~ Keith Tiplady, 16th September 2012
A poor first half saw little of what was capable of the Cliffe side apart from goalkeeper David Laverack who was called upon to make some great saves to keep the game goalless. Cliffe created very few chances in a frustrating opening 45 minutes.
Cliffe began the second half with more of a threat and urgency about themselves but Osbaldwick still provided a threat of their own and Laverack pulled off a further set of saves to keep the score 0-0.
The match-winning move of the match started with Nathan Parker playing in Dave Reasbeck who squared to Kev Taylor, who managed to scramble the ball onto the inside of the post as the ‘keeper was stranded and as the ball rolled loose, Chris Harkin smashed the ball through the defender on the line to make the score 0-1 with just over 10 minutes to go and silence the partisan crowd. Harkin had the ball in the net again but was ruled offside and further solid defending at the other end saw Cliffe see out the win and take all three points.
Next Saturday, Keith Tiplady’s side face Stamford Bridge in league action at Oxen Lane, Cliffe – 2.30pm kick off.
