Cliffe FC 2ndXI vs. Civil Service (A) 13th April 2013

York Minster Engineering Football League – Reserve D
HT: 0-2
FT: Civil Service Reserves 0 – 3 Cliffe FC Reserves

Cliffe FC Reserves beat the newly crowned York League Reserve ‘D’ Champions, Civil Service, 3-nil in their own back yard.
Hugo Delgado writes…

“Every single player worked their socks off today and we always looked like the side who wanted to get the ball down and play football. 3-nil against the Division Champions is a great result and still leaves us in the hunt for promotion at the business end of the season. I was particularly impressed with three 16-year-olds who came into our team today, they were outstanding and showed great composure and maturity. Man-of-the-match was Tom Dunning…..again!!”

~ Dave Hebson, 13th April 2013.

16 year old Sean Gallagher finished a flowing attacking move with a well placed shot into the bottom corner from just inside the area to open the scoring. Ben Rawson then made a nuisance of himself to get in behind the Civil Service centre half following a beautifully weighted pass from Sean Gallagher and rounded the keeper before bundling the ball home from close range under pressure from two Civil Service defenders, 2-0. Cliffe justifiably led 2 – 0 at half time after out-working Civil Service and the ever strong Matt Birch and Mark Brown dealing ably with the aerial threat from Civil Service. The 3-points were effectively wrapped up when Rawson sprung the offside trap to get into the end if a great through ball from Nathan Leach and lobbed the keeper from 25 yards, 3-0 FT.
