York Minster Engineering Football League – Reserve D
HT: 2-3
FT: Wilberfoss Reserves 2 – 3 Cliffe FC Reserves

Cliffe FC Reserves carried on their recent good form with a hard fought victory away at the league leaders, Wilberfoss.
Simeon Leach writes…

“That was a really hard fought victory. Not the prettiest performance but that’s the way it goes when both teams refuse to give an inch. Everyone involved should be holding their heads very high this week, it was a real battling performance and one to be proud of. We need to make sure we capitalise on that by getting another victory when we return to league action in a fortnight.”

~ David Hebson, 24th November 2013.

Cliffe started much the better of the teams, passing the ball about well and having most of the pressure; however it was Wilberfoss who took the lead against the run of play with a header from a well delivered corner, 1-0.
This seemed to fire Cliffe up and they soon levelled when Gaz Anderton got free down the left and prodded home the equaliser, 1-1. This was swiftly followed by two more Cliffe goals; the first when a good ball into the box caused all sorts of confusion before ricocheting in off a Wilberfoss defender for an OG – 1-2, then another quality free kick was headed home by Man-of-the-Match Iain Dickson, 2-3.
At this point Cliffe were well on top and dominating the game, but a defensive mistake let Wilberfoss in for another goal just before half time leaving the score at 2-3.

The second half was a much scrappier affair with Cliffe struggling to string their passes together and Wilberfoss having the majority of the pressure, However a lot of hard defensive work meant that Wilberfoss had very few clear cut chances and Cliffe could have snatched a goal on the break a couple of times with a bit more composure in front of goal. Final Score: 2-3.
A decent hard working performance, but a great result at a place not many teams will come and win.

Cliffe FC’s York FA Cup tie versus F1 Racing Reserves was abandoned in the 47th minute after a suspected ankle break suffered by F1’s Rich Purser which required an ambulance to be called. Cliffe FC would like to wish Rich a speedy and full recovery.

Cliffe FC did lead 3-0 at the half-time interval with goals coming from Chris Jackson, Lee Carter and Andy Addison. More news to follow as soon as the York FA/North Riding FA make a ruling decision on the tie.
