York Minster Engineering Football League – Division Two
FT: Barmby Moor 2 – 5 Cliffe FC
Cliffe FC take all three points in a 5-2 victory away at Barmby Moor, birthday-boy Chris Jackson with the pick of the goals.
Malcolm Bryce writes…
“A much improved second half performance saw us comfortably beat a robust Barmby Moor side.”
~ Keith Tiplady, 7th December 2013.
Cliffe began the brighter of the two sides and opened the scoring in the 8th minute, Ian Beckram nutmegging a defender and crossing for Si Houlder to open scoring against his former club, 0-1. Barmby’s Andy Stone pounced on a lapse of communication in the Cliffe defence to neatly equalise after the half-hour. Andy Kirkham and Wes Pears found their way in the book, for two tackles right in front of the Barmby Moor contingent. Every time Cliffe got the ball down and played football they looked likely to score, the away side went into the break 1-2 ahead when a set-piece found it’s way onto the left foot of Tom Robinson who guided the ball past the ‘keeper, 1-2 HT.
Whilst having the lead, the Cliffe ranks weren’t happy with their level of performance and knew they needed to improve in the second-half. Almost immediate impact in the opening minutes of the half, Beckram hitting a shot that deflected into the back of the net, the deflection almost helping the ‘keeper, made the score 1-3. Cliffe from this point dominated the game with Barmby’s robust playing style the home side’s only answer. Chris Jackson made it 1-4, picking the ball up at the edge of the box and placing it neatly into the far top corner, a great way to celebrate his 20th birthday. Andy Addison had to leave the field after suffering a shoulder injury, later confirmed at hospital as a dislocation. #GetWellSoonAA
Barmby snatched another goal, Tom Hogg conceding a penalty, which was converted by Chris Tatterton and made the score 2-4. Cliffe made the final score 2-5 with a powerful Kirkham header, but this wasn’t the final incident of the game. Substitute Jackson Lucitt – on his début for Cliffe FC and being on the field around 7 minutes – the Welshman débutante shown a straight red for violent conduct, both him and Barmby’s Andrew Palfreyman being sent-off – a début that will go down in Cliffe FC folklore!
The game finished 5-2 to Cliffe FC and Keith Tiplady’s side got the three points they travelled to Barmby Moor for, FT.
