York Minster Engineering Football League – Division Two
FT: Cliffe FC 5 – 3 Strensall
FOUR Reuben Pearce goals, including a 1st-half hat-trick, is the highlight of Cliffe FC’s 5-3 win versus Strensall. The same 5-3 scoreline also read at Wheldrake as Cliffe FC Reserves’ run extends with another win.
Malcolm Bryce writes…
“I was looking for an improvement over last week, everyone stepped up to the plate. The outstanding performance from Reuben Pearce will outshine most but it was good to see Dave Reasbeck back in a Cliffe shirt. The whole squad was good in general but again Reuben deserves a special mention for his four goals!”

It took Reuben Pearce four minutes to open scoring, unleashing a shot from the edge of the box into the net, 1-0. Pearce then made it 2-0 from a similar range to double Cliffe’s lead with another nice finish. Even though Cliffe were playing at Riccall Business Park the infamous “Cliffe bobble” seems to travel with the club as it reared it’s head for Strensall’s first goal – a tame shot taking a horrible deflection off a bobble to wrong-foot Dave Laverack and make the score 2-1. After Wes Pears was felled outside the box, Pearce stepped up and completed his hat-trick in the first half, arrowing the ball into the top corner – An unbelievable fashion to both open his goalscoring account for Cliffe FC and put his team 3-1 ahead at the interval, HT.
Strensall made it 3-2 in the early moments of the second half before the man of the moment popped up with another free-kick, Pearce scoring his forth of the game – once again from outside the box – to make the score 4-2. Cliffe pushed to put the game to bed and a Kev Taylor corner was eventually converted via a looping header from Nathan Parker to make the score 5-2. Whilst everything Pearce hit on-target seemed to go in, both Chris Jackson and Lee Carter were frustrated in front of goal as Strensall’s #1 made a set of saves from each of the Cliffe forward’s efforts. Strensall scored in the final moments of the match to make the final score 5-3 FT.
A good result for Cliffe FC and a special performance from man-of-the-match Reuben Pearce. Cliffe FC welcome Tadcaster Magnets – who moved into the promotion places on Saturday – on Monday evening to Riccall Business Park, 6.15pm KO.
Cliffe FC Reserves Summary
York Minster Engineering Football League – Reserve D
FT: Wheldrake Reserves 3 – 5 Cliffe FC Reserves
Cliffe FC Reserves’ form continues with a 5-3 away win against Wheldrake Reserves – Nigel Horner, another brace from Toby Bodycombe and another man-of-the-match winning performance from Tom Dunning who completed the scoring with a brace of his own.
“The lads clearly put in a huge amount of effort against a strong Wheldrake side, I know they where determined to get a win for our captain Aaron Lees who’s season has been sadly ended by injury. This sets us up nicely for the run of 6 games in 16 days and hopefully the prize of promotion at the end of it. Unbeaten since 12th Jan gives everyone the message that we are a very strong side and will be tough opposition for anyone. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go to Aaron Lees.”
