Cliffe FC 0 - 1 Hemingbrough Utd 13Sept14

It was felt that this game would be a close affair and the first half delivered a goalless interval in a scrappy affair, Hemingbrough seems to edge the opening minutes and even had a penalty shout turned down – Cliffe ‘keeper Dave Laverack rushing out to Luke Zacharenko, the Hemingbrough striker went down but no penalty awarded. Nathan Parker put a near post header wide at the other end and the score remained 0-0 at the break.

Cliffe did have the first chance of the second half, but neither Kev Taylor or Parker got enough contact on the ball to test the ‘keeper. Ryan Tiplady, drafted into the Cliffe first team after his transfer this week, impressed at left-back as did man-of-the-match Jack Dinnewell in the middle of the Cliffe midfield. Laverack was drawn into action once more rushing off his line to deny Aidy Wood 1-on-1 and the game remained goalless until the last fifteen minutes. The all important goal went the way of Hemingbrough, a long throw found its way to the back post and broke for Mike Hemingway to score, 0-1. Cliffe couldn’t carve out any definite chance of an equaliser and Hemingbrough took the honours, 0-1 FT.

A strong Tockwith side hand out a 6-0 drubbing to Cliffe Reserves under Jay Grundy’s caretaker charge. A less than ideal start for Cliffe Reserves.
