Cliffe FC XI 3 - 7 Wigginton Grasshoppers XI 2Aug14

Cliffe FC Reserves manager took charge to travel to Wigginton and fielded a side made out of a majority of players he’ll be looking to utilise in the upcoming York League Reserve C season, this was supplemented by a handful of first teamers. Agreed as a mixed XI friendly, however regardless of the side Grasshoppers put out, a combination of both their Premier Division and Reserve A side would be a test for the Cliffe men.
Wigginton lead 3-1 at the break, racing into a 3-0 lead near the 20 minute mark before Cliffe began to come more into the game and compete. Sean Gallagher was dragged back in the area to win a penalty, Chris Jackson saw his Neymar-styled penalty saved but calmly passed the rebound past the ‘keeper, 3-1 HT.

The early 3-goal cushion established by Wigginton was too big a lead for Cliffe to chase the final score eventually reading 7-3. Chris Jackson scoring his second, with a powerful header from a Nigel Horner cross, and a surging Nathan Parker run ending with Parker scoring Cliffe’s third, 7-3 FT.
The scoreline didn’t make great reading, Grasshoppers were just too strong on the day, but there are positive for Cliffe to draw from the fixture and build upon in preparation for the upcoming season for both Hebson and Keith Tiplady’s side – but things must begin to improve as September’s fixtures creep ever-closer.
